Microfluidics – Case Study
One of the fastest ways to get micro parts into the hands of our clients has traditionally been micro machining. For many projects it is immediately justifiable spending capital on the tooling necessary for micro molding. However, if the design has been made iteration-friendly (steel-safe, inserted for areas thought to be changed prior to design freeze) then it may be a perfect candidate for micro machining. It must be appreciated that not all materials – such as some polymers, heat sensitive materials and drug-induced materials – are appropriate for micro machining. The stresses induced through the micro machining process can render some materials degradable, physically weak and/or unfit for sterilization.
