7/31/12: In previous papers we have discussed micro molding and micro machining in a variety of materials (thermoplastic, glass, metal, silicone). These molded, machined, etched, lasered, EDMed or formed components may be stand alone tiny parts but most times they are not stand alone, they are part of a micro device requiring some micro assembly. The challenge for designers, engineers and manufacturing teams lies in designing a micro component that can achieve form, fit and function but also be economical.
