USE OF MICROSCOPIC SURFACE FINISH IN SCALING ULTRA PRECISION MEDICAL & PHARMACEUTICAL DEVICES

7/31/12: In previous papers we have discussed micro molding and micro machining in a variety of materials (thermoplastic, glass, metal, silicone). These molded, machined, etched, lasered, EDMed or formed components may be stand alone tiny parts but most times they are not stand alone, they are part of a micro device requiring some micro assembly. The challenge for designers, engineers and manufacturing teams lies in designing a micro component that can achieve form, fit and function but also be economical. This image is an MES silicone injection molded micro structures 3 microns in diameter, 84 million micro molded structures on a microscope slide.

MICRO MOLDING INTRAOCULAR IMPLANTS

7/24/12: Micro Molding is exciting as it is enabling many new medical and pharmaceutical devices of the future. Because of our ultra precision surface finish abilities, we have a particular expertise and interest in ophthalmic and intraocular implants but we don’t get a chance to work on all of them of course. Restoring sight- is there anything more cool and rewarding than that? Here’s one retina restoration technology that is allowing the light to shine through for many visually challenged individuals. Stay tuned to this micro manufacturing blog as we offer up more micro molding and micro machining technologies that addresss the needs of medical device development.

The MES Ophthalmic Project page shows some of the intraocular implants and ophthalmic devices we have developed with our clients. See you again soon.
